Robots Everywhere – Robots in the Air!
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, or UAVs, have been a media highlight of the robotics industry for many years now. With a variety of applications, from transport and shipping, survey, search and rescue, and the military, it is no wonder that Robots Everywhere’s drones follow the path to the future, and take to the air!
The most recent application of the Robots Anywhere system is in conjunction with our lightweight PropDIP control board, which handles flight controls on an RC powerglider. This system is still in development, but it is expected within the year that a full NAVCOM system, interfacing with a mobile phone running Robots Anywhere, will be available for deployment.
Developed at St Mary’s University alongside ELAINE, Ithuriel applied the same NAVCOM system to aircraft. In addition to controlling the plane and allowing it to navigate to and circle waypoints, it also ran an additional algorithm to target and drop bombs on additional waypoints specified to the AI. This system has obvious military applications, but payload deployment can also be used to ferry cargo without landing, to send supplies in search and rescue situations, and to deploy secondary drones for wide-area survey.
